| IXPN Board Inaugurated |
The Interim
Board of the Nigerian IXPN was inaugurated on March 13, 2007 at the new
corporate headquarters of the NCC, during which the Executive Vice
Chairman of the Commission, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, charged the members to
regard the assignment as a national service.
The 11-member Interim Board of the IXPN comprises of Mr. Chima
Onyekwere as Chairman and Mr. Mohammed Rudman as Chief Executive
Officer. Other members are Mrs. Zubaida Rasheed, Mr. Sunday Afolayan,
Engr. Sam Adeleke, Engr. Aminu Tijani, Mr. Chioke Ogugua, Mr. Akinwale
Goodluck, Prof. K. R. Adeboye, Mr. Yen Choi and Dr. S. A. Ehikioya. |
| Fibre connection established
between Ikeja and Lagos Island, Lagos Island and Victoria Island |
| The fibre
connection between Ikeja and the Nitel Co-lo (NET House) has been
established, as well as the link between Nitel Co-lo, Lagos Island and
the Medallion Co-lo in Victoria. This is a significant achievement for
the IXPN as potential members, including the service providers, which
are concentrated in Victoria and Lagos can soon start interconnecting,
ofcourse also with the members interconnection at Ikeja, which is a
content provider stronghold. |
| Wireless backhaul ring
established between all three NIX locations |
| The IXPN network
secondary peering LAN sits on a 450M wireless ring. Successful
installation between the three sites was carried out in the week ending
22nd July, 2006. |
| Fourteen organisations sign
up as pioneer members, Nine others indicate interest or proposed as
members |
| Fourteen
companies will soon be going through the joining procedure and will all
be welcomed as thE pioneer member of the Internet eXchange Pointof
Nigeria (IXPN). These companies have all confirmed their interest in
joining the NIX and will soon be exchanging traffic, keeping local
traffic local, just as it should be. The companies are Amsco Telecoms,
Tara Systems, Skannet, GS Telecoms, Netcom Africa, Megatech, Steineng,
Medallion Communications, Inet Global, Linkserve, Nitel, Swift Talk,
Microaccess and Starcomms. Furthermore, some other potential members
have indicated their interest or considered proposed members. These
companies include Cyberspace, Accelon, 21st Century, Setlins, Bestcom,
Disc Communications, Cobranet, Galaxy ITT & MTN. |
| IXPN performs bench test of
equipment, installs equipment at Medallion Co-lo facility |
| Using technical
support from Tara Systems, IXPN successfully performed a bench test of
the IXPN equipment; switches and routers. The the IXPN locations
were simulated in a single room, in effect simulating a the Internet
exchange itself. Some members of the public were invited to have a look
at what the IXPN will eventually look like. Some pictures from the

| IXPN partners with
Medallion, Nitel as co-location providers |
| The IXPN has
established a partnership with Medallion Communications and Nitel Plc
has co-location partners. Medallion operates a co-lo center in Saka
Tinubu, where the IXPN Victoria Island location is housed while Nitel
co-lo at the NET house in Marina, houses the IXPN Lagos Island
location. Medallion is among the first companies to be awarded the
operating national license to operate a clearing house telecom
operators. Nitel Plc is the first national carrier. |
